BandLab Acquires Aiode as AI Music Licensing Faces Closer Scrutiny
BandLab Technologies has acquired Aiode, an AI-powered digital music studio that allows producers to add licensed musician and style-based models to existing projects.
The acquisition adds Aiode to a company portfolio that already includes BandLab and Cakewalk.
Each platform serves a different production environment. BandLab centers on browser- and mobile-based creation, Cakewalk provides a desktop DAW, and Aiode focuses on AI-generated performances built around material a producer has already created.
The broader industry question concerns how those AI models are trained.
Aiode states that 100 percent of the audio used to train its proprietary models is licensed and traceable to its source. When the company develops a model around an individual musician, that person participates in the process and helps direct how the model represents their playing and artistic identity.

A new artist may begin a track on a phone, while an experienced producer may work inside a desktop DAW. This follows BandLab Technologies’ earlier expansion across music creation and artist services. The Aiode deal moves the company further into AI-assisted production at a point when ownership and training consent are receiving close examination across the music business.
The acquisition also gives BandLab Technologies direct access to Aiode’s existing musician partnerships and licensing agreements. Those relationships may prove as important as the underlying software because ethically sourced training material depends on continued artist participation.
Aiode will continue operating independently
Aiode will remain available as a standalone product, and BandLab Technologies says existing customers will experience uninterrupted service. Current musician partnerships and licensing agreements will also remain in place.
Co-founders Idan Dobrecki and Blue Dobrecky will continue leading the company as CEO and COO.
Planned additions include native audio recording and further DAW functionality, although no release schedule has been announced.
Those additions could expand Aiode from a performance-generation platform into a broader production environment. Native recording would allow users to capture material within the same application where licensed AI models are used.
Further DAW functions could reduce the need to transfer files between Aiode and another recording platform.
Licensed musician models establish a clearer test for artist-centered AI
