The International Dance Music Awards

The International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) have always been at the forefront of electronic music while offering an inclusive look into the global scene. An electronic music institution spanning 33 consecutive years, the IDMAs will continue into 2020 with both an industry and consumer voting and nomination process. Nominations will begin in December ’19, with voting opening up in mid January.

Methodology

The IDMA Advisory Board

The IDMAs have undergone a complete update to its governing body, categories, and voting processes. Electronic music now has its very own advisory board that helps to define what the IDMA’s become and brings a new credibility to the awards like never before. The IDMA Advisory Board is composed of major players within the electronic music community, including notable artists, managers, agents, publicists, and promoters, among others.

Viberate

Part of the IDMAs is powered by Viberate – the world’s biggest crowdsourced platform for listing and mapping the live music industry. Using their metrics-based platform, the Viberate team helps to populate the IDMA artist categories and present a set of nominees based on true artist popularity and free from industry favoritism and politics. Nominees for the remaining IDMA categories are selected by the IDMA Advisory Board, with the winners of all categories being determined by a public vote.

Testimonials

Miami has always been a place I’ve considered home and WMC was essential for me and the label in many ways. From showcasing our new music to keeping up with all the new artists and releases. It was the official kickoff of the year and I’m happy to see it thriving again.

The Winter Music Conference represents a chance for Beatport to connect directly with our customer community. Having a strong conference means we have a platform to embrace the entire spectrum of electronic music culture. We are proud to support the resurgence of this great event.

Jonas Tempel

Beatport, Co-Founder

I first went to WMC ’87, the year I started Big Beat. It was an incredibly inspiring congregation of indie labels, DJs, artists, songwriters, producers and dance music lovers dedicated to breaking and discovering new music. WMC has been instrumental in furthering the dance and electronic cause; keeping the community connected, vital and relevant, and serving as an amazing springboard for talent. It’s a fantastic crucible for the future of dance music. Long may it live.

Craig Kallman

CEO & Co-Chairman Atlantic Records, Founder Big Beat Records

WMC is and has always been the lifeblood of the dance music scene. Never missed a year since ’96, I can’t imagine Amsterdam Dance Event or Ibiza Music Summit existing without the blueprint that WMC originated. Seeing this revived is absolutely essential to reunifying the North American scene surrounding electronic music and its fringes.

Winter Music Conference is my ground zero. It has always provided the perfect storm of opportunity and excitement for up and coming artists, including myself back in 2003, where I first caught a glimpse of how it felt to have an audience respond to my work. Over the years, I’ve always made it a point to have WMC in my calendar because that’s the spot where everyone congregates and you can feel it in the air. Creativity, brother and sisterhood, FUN and most of all the chance to come together as a community and celebrate the reason we are all here—the music.”
