Artist & Label Boss

Sydney Blu

Sydney Blu’s career can be considered a journey of evolvement. With tremendous passion for live performance, music production, and all-around artistic creativity, Sydney’s constant determination shines brightly through her accomplished Dj ca- reer. With beginnings in Toronto Canada and then 6 years in the United States tour- ing the continent and the globe, all the way to her present life in Berlin Germany, Sydney’s dedication to live her life through her music is unbridled.

A proudly Canadian artist, Sydney’s success is largely attributed to her relentless touring schedule which she’s upheld for several years. In 2009, Sydney Blu found- ed her own imprint, Blu Music, on the principle of authentic, dancefloor-rich house and techno, the following year she extended her brand another branch introducing her legendary Blu Party series which curates some of the greatest names of the un- derground house. On top of that, Sydney has released music on some of the most recognized labels in the industry including Knee Deep in Sound, VIVa Music, Desert Hearts Records, Mau5trap, and more. Her release “Give It Up For Me” on Mau5trap Recordings was one of Beatport’s highest selling songs, earning Sydney the rank of first female electronic music producer to have a top 10 hit on the plat- form. Last year marked another milestone for the top-selling electronic artist, as she has currently hit Top 10 on the Beatport Progressive House Chart for her single “Escape” on Underground Audio UK and earlier in the year she hit Top 20 on the Beatport Tech House chart with her single “Mind Games” on Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep in Sound. The song also was the top selling track on the labels Amsterdam Dance Event sampler and was premiered by Billboard Magazine. Sydney has also

released released a run of solid releases on Roger Sanchez’s Undr the Rdr, Super- nova’s Lapsus Music, Kerri Chandler’s MadTech Recordings, and was remixed by Italian techno heavy weight Pirupa. Looking forward, expect many new releases in 2019.

Winter Music Conference was the cream of the crop of conferences. Every label owner, label A&R, DJ and artist knew they had to go network at the Fontainebleau where the conference was hosted. The conference was not only one of the most important time of the year as it relates to dance music but it was also a place where records were broken and became summer hits. Some of my best DJ memories are from the events I played during WMC in the last 20 years.

Erick Morillo

DJ / Producer / Label Boss - Subliminal Records

Winter Music Conference is my ground zero. It has always provided the perfect storm of opportunity and excitement for up and coming artists, including myself back in 2003, where I first caught a glimpse of how it felt to have an audience respond to my work. Over the years, I’ve always made it a point to have WMC in my calendar because that’s the spot where everyone congregates and you can feel it in the air. Creativity, brother and sisterhood, FUN and most of all the chance to come together as a community and celebrate the reason we are all here—the music.”

The Winter Music Conference represents a chance for Beatport to connect directly with our customer community. Having a strong conference means we have a platform to embrace the entire spectrum of electronic music culture. We are proud to support the resurgence of this great event.

Jonas Tempel

Beatport, Co-Founder

Having only missed the very first year of WMC in 1985, it was 1986-1990 that initially placed me on the map globally due to the international attendance of the entire dance music community. All throughout the 90s I was often getting written about by various high profile mags and websites for having contributed to help break many artists, DJs, producers and remixers. WMC enabled me to bring many top industry people together all under one roof, especially at Groove Jet, where house music officially met Techno in my sets and it’s all been uphill since…TBC

Danny Tenaglia

DJ, Producer

I feel fortunate to have been part of the first-ever WMC. Over the 35 years, it has grown to give us an international forum where we exchange music and ideas. As an attendee and host of many of the award shows, I am proud each time I see new young talent emerge and then become world-renowned. We all have so many Winter Music Conference moments of hearing a seminal breakthrough record for the first time as well as a new DJ with star quality. Magical moments in my career.
