Tuesday, March 17th
Joe Abbati [ BM, MFA ] is a creative technologist/educator/electronic musician based in Miami. He has been a faculty member in the Music Engineering Technology Program at the highly acclaimed Frost School of Music for more than 20 years. Joe teaches courses ranging from Introduction to Music Engineering and Desktop Audio Production to Sound Design for Video and Developing XR Audio Applications in Unity/C#.
In 2012, he co-founded a new principle instrument track in the Frost School of Music. As Director of the Contemporary Media Performance Studio, Joe teaches private lessons and ensemble groups focused on electronic music production. The studio aspires to create new frontiers in the realtime performance of electronic music. Joe’s philosophy is that in the laptop, the convergence of tools for audio synthesis/signal processing along with creative multi-touch and gestural interfaces allows for a new definition of the term “instrument” – that being more of an ecosystem. Given that, the opportunities for the development of a new type of electronic music composer/performer deserve to be explored. A veteran of the computer game industry, Joe has created original scores and sound design for over 30 published titles. As an electronic music producer/performer, he has played all original live sets at festivals both local and International.
